    2) well, its a lot easier than getting it published in a book... generally just for others to read an enjoy.

    3) yea, id say so.

    4) i suppose so, i mean we all know each other (mostly) and wer all friendly :P

    5) well, i was going through some writers block, and i found the link on someones page. its a nice place to be.

    6) of course!

    7) well, feedback is always good XD as long as people arent just being horrible, but are pointing out improvements/ telling me its great, then ill listen and reply back. basically, i like to know that people like what i write.

hope that helps! are you just doing this coz you can, or is it for a project or something?

    1. Why do you write fan fiction?

I like to write and I like Harry Potter, I might as well combine the two xD

    2. Why do you publish your fan fiction on the Internet?

I'm not sure really. I suppose it gives you an opportunity to get feedback ecetera...

    3. Have you gotten to know anyone using this forum?

    Not in real-life.

    4. Do you feel that there is a community forming in this forum?

In a way, I suppose there is xD

    5. Why are you using this specific forum?

Because the people on it are great *grin* and because once I found this forum, I didn't look any further.

    6. Do you discuss anything besides fan fiction?

We discuss loads of stuff. We rant about normal life, we complain about exams, stuff that's in the news... All sorts!!

    7. Do other peoples' remarks on your fan fiction stories matter to you?

Kind of. I mean, obviously a nice review is better than a flame but I try not to take things to heart, so you know... xD

Yes! It does seem we have our own little language!! I know when I introduced a Friend to this site, i spent something like twenty-minutes explaining words to her ^^,

    1. Well, one because I love it, and two because it makes a good writing
exercise along side my original writing. It helps to hone my skills, if you
    will.

    2. Why does anyone write anything? For themselves, then for other people. If
I love to write it, I figure that people must at least like to read it too!

    3. I've met loads of amazing people on this forum! The best friends I've
never met, as we've started to call it!

    4. I think there has been a community here for a while. You just need to look
at the Introductions thread to see how many Welcomes people get and how much
talking gets done on the OTT (and OTT II now too)! We used up a whole thread
and had to move to a second with our random talking, which I think must say
    something.

    5. For the above reason, really. When I first came here nearly a year ago, it
was fairly new and small and friendly, but it's grown and grown. As it's got
bigger, instead of losing the close feeling I think it's just increased. It's
crazy, but awesome! Plus I think that taking on challenges that fit their
purpose and challenge you are a good thing sometimes.

    6. On this forum? Yes. We rant about EVERYTHING (seriously) and a great
variety of things get discussed. Because we're a variation of ages and from
different places in the world, we have different view points on things I
think, so it doesn't seem to have dried up yet, the conversation. And it's
fun, because the people here rock.

    7. To a degree. I've never received a flame, and I have been disappointed not
to on one occasion. I'm kind of looking forward to my first official one,
though I know that it'll be so awful when it happens. Getting feedback is
brilliant, because advice and support in writing is always valued. Plus people
saying nice things is always lovely.

    I hope this helped!

I'm surprised i actually surprised i'm doing this. Wow. Me being the lazy one and all. XD

    1. Why do you write fan fiction?

To repeat the previously sated: I love it. and secondly i feel like a gotta write, so it just felt... natural.

    2. Why do you publish your fan fiction on the internet?

I think it'd be breaching just a couple of laws to get fanfiction published as a book....

    3. Have you gotten to know anyone using this forum?

Best friends i've never met indeed.

    4. Do you feel that there is a community forming in this forum?

Yeah, it's the big, crazy, more than slight eccentric family you can't help but love.

    5. Why are you using this specific forum?

The challenges and the people! They're amazing. God, some of the writers in this form SHOULD be published. I came here maybe a year or two ago and haven't left since. This form's the only reason why i'm failing school and i still love the bloody place!

    6. Do you discuss anything besides fan fiction?

*looks pointedly at the OTT* ... enough said.

    7. Do other peoples' remarks on your fan fiction stories matter to you?

Yeah, they make you happy to know someone actually cares enough to comment on something you've actually done. And well you can trust them to be truthful, they don't feel they have to lie just because they're your 'friend'. It's wonderful. Although from the other end, because i've never gotten a flame, i couldn't tell you. ^^

I'm sorry if this doesn't make ANY sense. It's two in the morning and i've been up since six. ... thank merlin for week ends!

Hi. I'm Molly. This is an unusual topic, and there's a chance that Remo will delete it, but I'll try to answer your questions anyway.

How does it all work with the stories and the forums?

Our fics and this forum are barely related. This forum is dedicated to the bashing and flaming of the Harry Potter movies, which we all have something against. However, we get off topic often, and we start rambling about various things, including our fics, other movies, who's really hot, Disney, etc. Anyway, on to your questions.

    1. Why do you write fan fiction?

I just love writing a lot, and it's so much easier to write about characters that you know and love.

    2. Why do you publish your fan fiction on the internet?

So that I can get feedback, make some great friends, and hopefully provide someone a bit of happiness. I was devasted when I finished reading the last HP book, and I know millions of other people feel the same. My favorite part of fan fiction is reading other people's works. With fan fiction, even though there will never be another HP novel, I'm still able to see my favorite characters live their lives, etc. So I guess it's kind of like a rebound. Plus, with fics you can make so many different things happen. The world of HP is amazing and beyond real, but there's still so many aspects of it that can be played around with.

    3. Have you gotten to know anyone using this forum?

Yeah, definitely. I don't constantly message these other users, but in this forum it's like we're a group of friends in a big school, or something.

    4. Do you feel that there is a community forming in this forum?

Yes. Right now we're all a bit quiet, but when the next film comes out this Summer, we're all going to become really excited and angry, and there will be tons of us on here bashing the actors.

    5. Why are you using this specific forum?

Because I get really annoyed by some of the things in the movies. Sometimes I just want to scream my heart out on all the horrible things that the actors/directors are doing to the films, and this forum is the perfect outlet for that. Yes, it's a bit childish, but we're obsessed.

    6. Do you discuss anything besides fan fiction?

As I said, we talk about loads of random things. It's usually whatever pops into our minds and we go where the conversation takes us.

    7. Do other peoples' remarks on your fan fiction stories matter to you?

Yeah. It's fun to know what other people think of your writing, and if they feel the same way about your characters, etc. Reviews are a bit like forums, because when someone reviews my story, I usually reply to them, and sometimes we get into big conversations and stuff.

Hope this helped. And you're welcome to join us here if you ever feel the need to scream your lungs out about the HP movies.

    1. I write fanfiction because it's a release from real life, I suppose.

    2. I publish because I like the feedback and because there's people out there
who like to read what I write.

    3. I haven't really gotten to know anybody really on this fandom, but I have
    on a similar fandom.

    4. There is a sort of community forming. I'm not really privvy to all of it,
but you can see it by the way some of the people are so familiar with each
    other.

    5. This forum has a lot of challenges to work off. I don't write all HP
fanfiction, but there's really some good ideas in this forum.

    6. I've discussed things besides fanfiction here.

    7. Somewhat. If it's constructive criticism or a glowing review then it makes
me happy. I've never gotten flamed, so I'm not sure if it would matter to me
    or not.

    1. Why do you write fan fiction?

When I used to, it was because I was annoyed with other peoples, and
disagreed with their plots and character portrayals. So I wrote my own. Then I
got annoyed at myself and stopped. And the Harry Potter book I was waiting for
    came out.

    2. Why do you publish your fan fiction on the internet?

Because otherwise its pointless writing it. And their is much pleasure
    involved in review getting.

    3. Have you gotten to know anyone using this forum?

Considering the three other people who regularly use this forum are my sister
and two of my best friends, no. Though I think I know them better.

    4. Do you feel that there is a community forming in this forum?

I don't think so. Maybe a cult, though.

    5. Why are you using this specific forum?

Because I made it to talk to my sister while she was in France about next gen
fan fiction. Then forced two of my friends on when she wouldn't pay any
    attention to me.

    6. Do you discuss anything besides fan fiction?

    Yes. Rather too much.

    7. Do other peoples' remarks on your fan fiction stories matter to you?

Not really, I like getting them, but if someone said they were awful, I
wouldn't care, considering the fact I think they are awful.

That's an interesting idea, and I hope you get a lot of replies because I'm
sure we do it for different reasons. So, let's see.

    1) It's fun! It is also something very different from my normal life, and
makes a change from watching the television. There is also the challenge
involved in thinking up a plot and then turning that into a story you are
happy with. I can now see where the saying that writing is 1 percent
inpiration and 99 percent perpiration comes from.

    2) There is certainly a thrill in seeing your work on the screen, and then
the wait to see how it has been received.

    3) Yes, I've met a a few people using the site, some of whom I now correspond
    with.

    4) I'm not sure I would call it a community as such.

    5) Forum as in this page rather than the site? I keep an eye on it to see if
    anything interesting is being discussed.

    6) The people I correspond with tend to be similar to me (older than the
average reader/writer) so we discuss current affairs and news topics.

    7) Proper reviews are essential, whether they are posative or negative. They
stop the writer getting lazy, and make you think about your writing. Good
reviews are also a very nice ego boost!

If you have any follow up to my replies, or would like some expansion, please
feel free to contact me again.

    Regards

Are you into Harry Potter? If you are then we can get into big discussions
here.Since you're new, you probably can't understand half the things we're
saying, so I'll try to fill you in a little. Let's see...

A "ship" is a romantic relationship between characters, such as H/G--that's
    "Harry/Ginny," and it's my favorite.

A "shipper" is someone who "ships" a certain "ship." It looks confusing, but
    you'll figure it out quickly.

"Slash" is romantic relationships between two guys or two girls. A lot of
    peole here like Sirius/Remus ships.

"AU" means alternate universe, which tells people that your story is not
going to follow the normal storyline JKR created. (Say, if someone were to
write a story about Harry being Snape's son, it would be an AU.)

A "beta" is someone who reads other people's stories before they are
published, and gives feedback and fixes grammatical errors, etc. (You can call
    the author the "alpha.")

"Flaming" a story means leaving really mean reviews that don't attempt to
critique the story, but instead to make the author feel bad. Ummm...that's all
I can think of for now. Am I missing anything, guys?

    1. Why do you write fan fiction?

I write fanfiction because I love the challenge of writing while trying to
keep a character as 'in-character' as possible, and because the stories I have
read that I write about have sparked my imagination. I love to write, and
fanfic is a great way to do some original writing while having the common
    ground of familiar characters.

    2. Why do you publish your fan fiction on the internet?

Because I like reading other people's works, and so I'd hope someone likes
    reading mine

    3. Have you gotten to know anyone using this forum?

Not IRL, but I have a few I e-mail back and forth

    4. Do you feel that there is a community forming in this forum?

Somewhat. There are familiar names you see all over the place, and everyone
    seems friendly enough.

    5. Why are you using this specific forum?

I love a challenge in my writing, even if it is just trying to find ways to
use random quotes within a work

    6. Do you discuss anything besides fan fiction?

    Not on this forum, usually.

    7. Do other peoples' remarks on your fan fiction stories matter to you?

If someone leaves me constructive criticism I do like to try to use it. For
example, someone recently told me I use dialogue without enough descriptions
of how the characters react to what is being said. I really worked on trying
to convey their emotions in later chapters. If someone says they flat out hate
the plot or the story it's not going to deter me from writing more if there
are others saying that they love it.

    Hope it helps, and welcome!

    1. Why do you write fan fiction?

I write fanfiction mainly because I love to write, but also because when I
read about JKR's characters it makes me wonder about what happened in their
past and what other things apart from the moments that JK mentions made them
the people they are. Then there moments in the plot where I think - If this
hadn't happened, what would have happened to these people? And also when I'm
listening to music and watching films I like to imagine what they would do in
situations like that. All of it sounds crazy, but it really helps me develop
    my writing skills.

    2. Why do you publish your fan fiction on the internet?

Because I like to know what people really think of my work. It's all very
well your teachers and your friends telling you your work is good, but they
are sort of meant to tell you your work. The people that read fanfiction here
probably won't know you, so they have no problem telling you something you've
written is crap, if it's really good and what could be better. Plus I want
people to be able to see what I see about characters.

    3. Have you gotten to know anyone using this forum?

No not really, though I have got a couple of constant reviewers on my stories
thanks to people reading the stuff I've done for challenges.

    4. Do you feel that there is a community forming in this forum?

Yes, especially if you know them in real life. But also you can sense who the
leaders are, who are the constant reviewers, who writes the best challenges
    and who the newbies are.

    5. Why are you using this specific forum?

Because most forums are either Role-Playing or discussions on
Characters/Pairings. I love how this forum is uique, because not only do you
discuss characters and plots, but there are people here to help you write and
review your work. Also you can find challenges tailored to how you like them.
For example, I always really love sick-atxxheart's challenges because they can
be quite dark and sometimes they have really inspiring paragraphs you can use
    in your fanfiction.

    6. Do you discuss anything besides fan fiction?

Yes... well it will always be related to the fandom, so we talk about things
like the characters in the stories how they develop throughout the series and
what we do and don't like about them.

    7. Do other peoples' remarks on your fan fiction stories matter to you?

Yes, because I have put alot of effort and try to put alot of feeling into my
work. But at least people on FF.net are generally honest and will give you a
tip on how to make your fanfic better. Most people won't go flaming your work
and are always there to help you with your work.

    Hope I helped :D

Mm...well, let's see, along with slash goes mpreg- with is a fic invovling
male pregnancy. PWP is a ** with (either plot what plot or ** without plot,
I've seen the abbreviation used either way).

Mary Sue means a story in which an original character inserted into the
universe that is completely perfect, often based on the author's fantasy of
herself. A Gary Stu is the male equivalent.

OOC means out of character. OC means original character.

You probably know what a x-over is (cross over), which is just when two
different universes are combined into one story.

Canon when applied to fanfiction refers to the actual published work. Fanon
refers to something not in the original work but so used in fanfiction it is
accepted as canon (like in the dragonball z community it is an accepted part
of fanon that sayians bond, usually by biting their partners neck. this is not
in the orignal show or manga, but is used in almost every fanfiction focused
    on a relationship).

Mmm...that's about all the fanfiction terminology I can come up with at the
    moment.

and lol. it wasn't strictly a threat.
